It's funny, when you work on something so much 'behind the scenes', how easy it is to forget to actually introduce that thing when it's finally ready. So hey, today I've finally launched a thing I've been working on for nearly a year, and it's great to be able to say that!
I was supposed to be writing this from my parents’ kitchen table in York, where I went home to last week to print these recipe cards. But within five minutes it was pretty clear trying to print any number of cards from home was going to be The Worst Idea Ever. So I skipped the beating myself up part and called up a printers. One week and 500 beautiful recipe cards later, we're here.
Guac and Roll is finally selling its very first product. I’ve never done this before for my own brand, but I’ve thought a lot about it and I know it’s ready. One thing people have always asked me at the Frank & Olive Crochet Retreats is if I can sell recipe cards. As an avid blogger I’m always dead set on sending people to this site- but I’m beginning to understand that not everyone cooks with a dahl-splattered laptop in their kitchen. Through November 2015 to October 2016, it was the same feedback again and again- people wanted something to take home, something to keep and something to share with other friends.
The first limited edition batch of Guac and Roll Kitchen Recipe Cards are now up for sale on Guac’s Etsy shop. There are 25, they're 350gsm (like, business card thick), all printed on recycled card, in black and white, double sided, A5. Footprint Workers Co-operative in Leeds are behind the incredible print finish- I couldn't be happier that I messed up printing at home so quickly because those peeps know what they're doing, and for a great price.
My friend and designer Will Eckersley has done an ace job of actually making these happen, and we’ve worked on some Guac favourites that you should be able to make relatively easily at home. It was a total pleasure working out which 25 to include this time around- you might spot some that have featured at supper clubs, at weddings, at cook-outs and of course at the crochet retreats. It's great to be sharing them in this way.
Another very good friend and (very good) illustrator Naomi Elliott has created the gorgeous illustration pattern on the back of every card. She currently lives in New York, so we’ve managed to put these together over different time zones and a very tumultuous US presidency race- thank you Naomi for battling through all of that.
There are 25 recipes- some of them retreat classics, some of them favourites that made it on to the blog a few years ago but have evolved into something else over that time. Think of them as Guac’s Best Hits.
The cards are priced separately (for when you’re looking for a specific recipe), but they will soon also be available in themed packs (perfect for presents!). Postage is only charged once- it will be grouped together with each order you make. All of the profits go back into Guac & Roll, so you can be sure you’re also helping out a very young vegan business too.
I go into a little more detail about each recipe card on its relevant Etsy page, and feel free to email me with any questions or tips for presenting the recipes or changing them into gluten free, or for feeding them to a crowd! I’ll be happy to help.
And enjoy keeping them around your kitchen and save your laptop at the same time!
